HC Deb 03 February 1969 vol 777 cc19-20W
Mr. Dean

asked the Minister of Transport what compensation he estimates will be paid to the owners of port facilities in Bristol under the proposal in Command Paper No. 3903.

Mr. Marsh

The National Ports Authority will make payments to the Corporation of Bristol to cover the servicing of loans outstanding in relation to the harbour undertaking. Compensation will be paid as appropriate in respect of the severance of the harbour undertaking from the Corporation's other activities. The amount of loans outstanding is understood to be about £10m. Compensation for severance will be determined in the light of all the facts at the appropriate time.

No estimate of the compensation that might be paid in respect of the acquisition of port facilities in Bristol not owned by the Corporation can be given in advance of schemes to be prepared by the National Ports Authority.
