HC Deb 03 February 1969 vol 777 c39W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action he proposes to arrest the decline in the number of mathematics and physics graduates entering the schools.

Miss Bacon

The decline is in the proportion rather than the numbers entering the schools. There is a serious shortage, though my Department's current advertising effort is aimed at science and mathematics graduates. The Department has produced and distributed a booklet on science and mathematic teaching and is collaborating with university appointments boards and faculties of science in arranging meetings for students.
