§ 72. Mr. Gordon Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the proposal for a new ferry service between Stornoway and Ullapool, indicating when a decision will be taken on this and associated services.
§ Mr. RossThe Scottish Transport Group and the Highlands and Islands Development Board are discussing the possible future pattern of services and routes to the Western Isles, including a new ferry service between Stornoway and the mainland, and I expect to receive detailed proposals from the group within the next few weeks. These will have to be carefully examined having regard particularly to their implications for existing services and for new investment in vessels and terminal facilities.
