HC Deb 12 December 1969 vol 793 cc204-5W
Captain Kerby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many original proof gallons of Scotch whisky are in bond; and what is the estimated yield of this when duty-paid.

Mr. Taverne

At 31st March, 1969 stocks of British plain spirit in bonded warehouse were about 708 million original proof gallons. Separate figures for Scotch whisky are not available.

Duty at the present rate of £18 17s. 0d. per proof gallon on this quantity would total over £13,000 million; but it is not possible to say how much will in practice become duty-paid.

Captain Kerby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many proof gallons of Scotch whisky in bond at the present time will be three-years and four-years old, respectively, in 1970.

Mr. Taverne

This information is not available.

Captain Kerby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an estimate as to the numbers of proof gallons of Scotch whisky he expects to be released and duty-paid in 1970.

Mr. Taverne
