HC Deb 11 December 1969 vol 793 cc158-9W
65. Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has had regarding the establishment of a forestry training centre; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grey

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has now decided on the location of a centre for forestry supervisory education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Edward Short

Representations have been received from a number of bodies, including various sectors of the forestry industry and the Trade Unions concerned, about the establishment of a centre to provide education at the supervisory level for forestry students. In view of the very small numbers involved, only one centre is required at present to meet the needs of Great Britain. It has now been decided that this centre shall be located at the Cumberland and Westmorland College of Agriculture and Forestry at Newton Rigg.
