HC Deb 11 December 1969 vol 793 c158W
63 and 69. Mr. Ted Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) how many oversize classes of over 40 pupils exist in Darlington; and what percentage of the total classes this represents;

(2) how the number of oversized classes in Darlington of 40 or more, expressed as a percentage, compares with the national average.

Miss Bacon

In January 1969, the latest date for which national figures are available, 76 of the primary classes in Darlington, or 33.6 per cent., had over 40 pupils, compared with the national average of 9.5 per cent. The number has since been reduced and is now 37, or 15.6 per cent.
