HC Deb 11 December 1969 vol 793 c147W
2. Mr. Hastings

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on progress with computer education.

Mr. Fowler

Since the hon. Member's Question on 6th March, the Schools Council and industry have together decided to sponsor a four-year project in the preparation of teaching materials for computing in school mathematics. In further education, courses in computer and related studies continue to expand; and facilities costing £3.4 million have been approved over the last four years. The University Grants Committee and the Computer Board have completed the first part of a study of future requirements in universities, and the Government are considering their recommendations.
