§ 47. Mr. Channonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what 153W are the dimensions of the present Clapham Transport Museum; and what are the dimensions of the proposed new site in York.
§ Miss Jennie LeeThe total exhibition space at Clapham is 64,500 square feet, of which 48,000 square feet is occupied by railway exhibits. The proposed new museum at York will provide 82,000 square feet. In addition to the Clapham railway exhibits, it will accommodate the contents of the existing York railway museum which has 20,000 square feet of exhibition space.
§ 68. Mr. Tilneyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what he estimates the cost will be of moving the railway part of the Transport Museum from Clapham to York.
§ Miss Jennie LeeThe cost of moving the exhibits to York has been estimated at about £100,000. It is expected that this amount, as well as the cost of converting the premises—originally estimated at just over £400,000—will be covered by the receipts from the sale of the sites of the Clapham Museum and of the present York Railway Museum.
§ Mr. Channonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is to become of the road transport vehicles at present in the Clapham Museum of Transport when that Museum closes; and where they will be displayed.
§ Miss Jennie LeeThe London road transport vehicles will be returned to London Transport, who have stated that they will be available to view on application by interested parties. The other road vehicles, five trams, will go either to the Tramway Museum at Crich (near Matlock, Derbyshire) or to regional museums.
