HC Deb 11 December 1969 vol 793 c165W
77. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many cases where proceedings have been taken by the Metropolitan Police for motoring offences, either before or at the trial, notice has been given that an absolute discharge will be referred to either on, or in the event of, conviction.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

It would involve a disproportionate effort to obtain this information.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will instruct the Metropolitan Police not to send notices of intention to submit lists of previous convictions invoking an absolute discharge when prosecuting for further and different offences; and whether he will request the Metropolitan Police to withdraw such notices which may have been sent during the past three months.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

No.
