§ 42. Mr. Brewisasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what shortfall he estimates there will be in the supply of home-grown potatoes this season.
§ Mr. HoyThe extent of any shortfall in main crop potatoes this season depends on the demand for old and imported new potatoes in the next six months, on the keeping quality of the home crop—which looks like being above average—and on many other factors. As I see it at present, any shortage to be made up by importing main crop or processed potatoes is likely to be smaller than in 1962–63 when we imported something less than 200,000 tons.
