Mr. Gregory

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what were the estimated amounts paid to individual county boroughs, non-county boroughs, urban and rural district councils in the Lancashire and Cheshire area for rate rebates for 1963–64 and also for the current financial year; and if he will publish the details in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Denis Howell

Rate rebates were introduced by the Rating Act, 1966 and were first afforded for the year 1966–67. There are therefore no figures about rebates for 1963–64. Figures for the current financial year are not yet available. Figures for 1968–69 were published as "Rate Rebates in England and Wales 1968–69".
