HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 c108W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of the number of newly qualified voters in the city and county of Kingston upon Hull; how many have failed to have their name included on the new electoral register; and what steps he is taking to draw the attention of such voters to their failure to register.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I understand that the number of those newly qualified to become electors in the city and county of Kingston upon Hull is estimated at between 13,000 and 14,000; and that, of these, about 1,000 may not be included in the electors' lists now on display. The local press has carried notices and articles about the need for people to check the electors' lists, and my hon. Friend will be aware of the extensive national publicity on this subject.
