HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 c67W
Mr. Crouch

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the bridges on the section of the A2 road between Dover and Canterbury are incapable of supporting the high loads of modern inter-continental lorries using the route; and if he will therefore impose load limitations in the interests of public safety.

Mr. Bob Brown

Inter-continental lorries are subject to British vehicle weight regulations. None of the bridges on the trunk road section of the A2 between Dover and Canterbury requires a weight restriction.

Within the county borough boundary of Canterbury a bridge owned by British Rail is marginally below strength and is programmed for reconstruction next year. The need for a weight restriction on this bridge is currently under consideration by British Rail.
