§ Mr. Roseasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable on the cost involved in dealing with disturbances at the recent match in Manchester involving the South African Rugby touring team, and on the proportion of the cost to be borne by public funds and the Rugby Union authorities, respectively.
§ Mr. CallaghanI am informed that the club will pay £333, the full cost of the 100 officers stationed inside the ground throughout the match, but not of the 100 officers brought in temporarily during the match to deal with disturbances. In addition 2,000 officers were employed in dealing with demonstrations outside the ground.
