§ 63. Mr. George Jegerasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity whether she will give the unemployment figures for Thorne expressed in numbers and percentages for each October from 1964 to 1969.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerFollowing is the information:
The House will also be aware that a further meeting took place yesterday between the enclosed docks employers and the union to review the situation in the enclosed docks following the rejection by ballot of the employers' pay offer. A further joint meeting is to take place shortly.
In the light of these developments, and in view of the special protection which dockers enjoy against redundancy, the voluntary severance payments scheme and the improved pension arrangements—to which I referred in my statement of 27th November—I again urge the union to treat the lifting of the ban and the London Devlin Stage II negotiations as separate issues, and to implement, without further delay, the agreements covering the Tilbury container berth and the other modernised terminals affected.
