HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 c324W
42. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what are the latest available figures for the average weekly earnings of production workers in the car industry in each of the Oxford, Birmingham, Coventry, and Luton areas; if she will carry out an investigation into the problems associated with the different wage levels of production workers in the car industry; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Harold Walker

Information about average earnings is not available separately for production workers, and is only available for workers in motor vehicle manufacturing (which includes a number of industries related to car production) for English standard regions and for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We know, of course, that there is no uniformity in earnings in the industry due to a variety of factors. I do not think however, that an investigation into the problems associated with different wage levels would of itself be of great value.
