HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 c364W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many Nigerian student doctors and nurses are currently being trained in the United Kingdom.

Dr. John Dunwoody

399 student nurses, 101 pupil nurses and 153 pupil midwives in training in National Health Services hospitals in Great Britain at 31st December, 1968 had been born in Nigeria.

I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science that, according to figures kept by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, there were in December, 1968 at universities in the United Kingdom 33 whole-time undergraduate medical students and 18 whole-time postgraduate medical students from Nigeria.
