HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 cc374-5W
Mr. Stainton

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the names of the distributors at present licensed under the Films Act, 1960; if he will give details of new entrants to the business in each of the last five years; and particulars of licences terminating for any reason during the same periods.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

It is not customary to publish the names of persons holding renters' licences under the Films Act 1960; the number of licences currently in force is 103.

The following are the total figures of new licences issued, and of licences the holders of which did not apply for renewal, during the last last five years:

Year New Licences issued Licences not renewed
1965 8 5
1966 3 11
1967 9 7
1968 8 7
1969 12 6

Mr. Stainton

asked the President of the Board of Trade what considerations are taken into account when issuing a licence for the business of distributing films under the Films Act, 1960.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

The Board of Trade are required by Section 25 of the Films Act, 1960 to grant a renter's licence to any person with a place of business in Great Britain who applies in the manner prescribed by the Films (Renters Licences) Regulations 1961 (SI 1961/1827) and who pays the prescribed fee of £15 15s. 0d.

Mr. Stainton

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give details of the net profits before tax in each of their past two financial years of each distributor of films licenced by him under the Films Act, 1960, insofar as these are attributable to the business permitted by the licences.
