HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 cc264-5W
Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he can now make a further statement regarding the export control of manuscripts, documents and archives.

Miss Jennie Lee

I have now received the report of the interdepartmental working party which as I told my hon. Friend the Member for Ashfield (Mr. Marquand) on 13th March, 1969, would be established to consider this matter. After studying it the Government have decided that the findings of the working party should be published as a Green Paper. This will be available in early January and there will then be a period of three months in which interested persons and organisations will be able to submit their views. I would emphasise that pending the expression of these views no decisions have been or will be taken by the Government on the working party's findings, which are an attempt to formulate a practicable scheme as a basis for further consideration.
