asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what was the total net cost of selective employment tax to the Scottish Special Housing Association in the year 1968–69; and what estimate he has made of the net cost in 1969–70;

(2) what was the total net cost of selective employment tax to the District Labour Organisation of the Scottish Special Housing Association in the year 1968–69; and what estimate he has made of the net cost in 1969–70.

Mr. Ross

I am informed that the association paid net S.E.T. of about £128,000 in 1968–69, all of this being in respect of directly employed staff engaged on capital works. The estimates figure for 1969–70 is £160.000.
