Under Section 5 of the Industrial Development Act, 1966, investment grants may be paid on capital expenditure incurred on or after 17th January, 1966, to persons and companies incorporated and resident in Great Britain in the provision of a new ship or new parts for a ship. For expenditure incurred between 1st January, 1967, and 31st December, 1968, the rate of grant was 25 per cent.: at other times, 20 per cent.

Section 9 of the Industrial Expansion Act, 1968, provides for loans up to a total of £24 million to Cunard Line Ltd. and Cunard Steam-Ship Co. Ltd. in connection with the construction or introduction into service of the liner "Queen Elizabeth 2".
