HC Deb 24 April 1969 vol 782 cc114-5W
59. Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity when the Government expect to complete consultations on the White Paper, "In Place of Strife".

Mr. Harold Walker

Consultations on the proposals in the White Paper have been in progress since shortly after its publication. They are being pursued urgently in respect of the matters to be dealt with in the interim Industrial Relations Bill to be introduced this Session. Consultations on the remaining proposals are expected to be completed in time for the introduction of a further Bill in the next Session of Parliament.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what representations she has had from trades unions on the Government White Paper, "In Place of Strife", and whether she will request each trade union to send representations to her Department and publish a synopsis of these in the Official Report.

Mr. Harold Walker

No. I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave to the hon. and gallant Member for Carshalton (Captain W. Elliot) on 31st March.

We have not had any representations direct from individual unions. Documents setting out the views of two unions have been received from hon. Members, including my hon. Friend.—[Vol. 781, c. 6.]

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Emloyment and Productivity (1) whether she will publish a detailed list in HANSARD of the various trades unions which have advised her of their support for the policies contained in the Government's White Paper, "In Place of Strife";

(2) whether she has yet received the communication from the honourable Member for West Ham, North, together with enclosures from the Clerical and Administrative Workers Union; and whether she will discuss with this union their representations against the Government's policy in the White Paper, "In Place of Strife".

Mr. Harold Walker

Consultations with the trade union movement are being conducted through the T.U.C. and we have received views from only a relatively small number of individual unions. These include the communication which my hon. Friend has sent from the Clerical and Administrative Workers Union.
