HC Deb 24 April 1969 vol 782 c116W
63. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what steps she is taking to reduce the waiting list for entry into Government training centres in the Northern Region.

Mr. Hattersley

In the next two years the five centres and 1,100 training places now available in Northern Region will be increased to eight centres and over 1,800 training places. At present the waiting list is large only because too many applicants want training in a few popular trades. My officers are therefore encouraging potential trainees to apply for the engineering trades in which there are immediate vacancies.
