HC Deb 24 April 1969 vol 782 c103W
34. Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has considered the representations made to him that a medical school should be established in Stoke-on-Trent and Keele University; and what action he proposes to take.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

As my right hon. Friend indicated in his reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Putney (Mr. Hugh Jenkins) on 14th April, the increase in the number of entry places at medical schools to 3,700 by 1975 will be achieved, mainly—apart from the new school at Southampton and Nottingham—by expanding existing schools. The recommendations made by the Royal Commission for Medical Education for subsequent expansion and for establishing new schools are still under consideration.—[Vol. 781, c. 222.]
