HC Deb 24 April 1969 vol 782 c114W
Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the fact that the envelopes containing copies of the speech by the Chairman of the National Coal Board at Londonderry on 26th March have now been sent to him, he will cause an inquiry to be made into the postal delay involved.

Mr. Joseph Slater

I regret I am unable to say with certainty the cause of the delay, but checks show that franked mail is not being properly segregated into 1st and 2nd class streams by the poster. This may have been the cause of the delay: in addition the envelope which the hon. Gentleman sent me bore an unnecessary abbreviation for "Northern Ireland" and the letter could possibly have been missorted to London, N.1. Londonderry is sufficient for postal addressing purposes.
