HC Deb 22 April 1969 vol 782 c59W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give instructions to tax officers to give the appropriate tax relief to deserted, separated and divorced wives and families as soon as they are informed that the husband is evading his financial responsibilities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Harold Lever

Where a wife entitled to payments under a maintenance order does not receive the full amounts due under the order, existing instructions to tax offices enable an appropriate adjustment to be made in calculating her tax liability or her P.A.Y.E. code number; but it may take time to establish what relief is due.

If my hon. Friend has any particular case in mind I shall be glad to look into it.
