HC Deb 21 April 1969 vol 782 c46W
Dr. John Dunwoody

asked the Minister of Technology what assessment of domestic Government subsidies and support for the shiprepairing industries in Portugal, Spain and France have been made in the last 12 months, in the light of the competition with the United Kingdom shiprepairing industries which is involved.

Mr. Fowler

Information received within the last twelve months indicates that France gives subsidies for shiprepair but the other countries do not. An assessment of how far each shiprepair yard is helped by national economic policies, or other relevant factors, could only be made after a lengthy and detailed investigation.
