Mr. Edward M. Taylorasked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the progress which has been made in providing lighting on the trunk and principal roads network.
§ Mr. CarmichaelSince 1st April 1966, schemes for lighting 290 miles of trunk road have been completed or are now in progress. Since 1st April 1967, when grant for lighting principal roads became payable for the first time, applications for lighting schemes on 110 miles of principal road have been approved. These figures do not include lighting schemes associated with new road improvements.4W We hope that this rate of progress will be materially increased as county councils complete the staffing and other arrangements necessary for the full discharge of their new responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1966.
