asked the Minister of Transport (1) if he will specify the area or areas in East Kent where, because of possible requirements for the Channel Tunnel, his Department are advising Kent County Council that other applications for development may be premature;

(2) how long his Department propose to delay decisions on certain applications for development in East Kent on grounds that they fall within an area or areas which may be required for Channel Tunnel development.

These areas are possible locations of terminals for the Channel Tunnel and where the railway to the tunnel portal might run. I published alternative proposals last December.

I shall decide on the siting of terminals as soon as the necessary studies and consultations are complete.
