HC Deb 21 April 1969 vol 782 c48W
Mr. Marples

asked the Minister of Technology if he will give a breakdown of the total cost in 1968–69 of civil research and development by the Atomic Energy Authority, exclusive of the net cost of Atomic Energy Authority research establishments.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

The Authority's accounts for 1968–69 are not yet available. An estimate of expenditure on civil research and development, including non-nuclear (£3 millions), is £58 million in terms of full commercial costs. The net cash costs of the Authority's civil R. & D. establishments in that year as given in my reply of 4th February were estimated to amount to nearly £30 million. The balance of some £28 million is broadly attributable as follows:—

£ million
Expenditure on international projects 2
Interest, depreciation and other non-cash items at the Authority's civil R. & D. establishments 18
Expenditure at other Authority sites 8
