§ Sir R. Russellasked the Minister of Transport what action is required of a driver under the regulations when his engine suddely stalls when he is driving in the fast lane of a motorway overtaking other vehicles, especially if he is going uphill.
§ Mr. MarshThe Motorway Regulations, 1959, do not make any specific requirement in this very rare situation, though they would not preclude driving on to the central reservation in an attempt to avoid an accident. If a breakdown causes a vehicle to stop on the carriageway, the Regulations require that the vehicle should as soon as possible be moved to the hard shoulder.
