§ 29. Mr. Moonmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the proposals of London boroughs to reorganise their social service departments without waiting for the Seebohm Committee Report to be implemented, if he will advance the date of his preliminary report on the subject from the end of May.
§ Mr. CrossmanAs I told my hon. Friend the Member for Holborn and St. Pancras, South (Mrs. Lena Jeger) in reply to her Question on 10th March, the Government will seek to make an interim statement about the Report after publication of the Report of the Royal Commission on Local Government in England. I cannot at the moment give any undertaking as to date, but I understand that the Royal Commission's Report should be published before very long and it remains the Government's view that local authorities should not make changes in the organisation of their personal social services that might preempt the Government's decisions.—[Vol. 779, c. 222.]
