Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will provide a table showing for each of the years 1945 to 1968 the number of people murdered, the number of people charged with murder, the number convicted, the number sentenced to death, the number subsequently hanged, the number of police officers or prison warders killed whilst discharging their duties and the number of convicted murderers who, having served their sentence, subsequently committed a second murder.

The table below contains the information required for the years 1957 to 1968. I shall write to my hon. Friend about the period 1945 to 1956 for which some of the information is

NOTE:

In the period 1957 to 1968 no police officers or prison officers were murdered whilst discharging their duties, nor were there any convicted murderers who, having served their sentence, subsequently committed a second murder.
