HC Deb 03 April 1969 vol 781 cc172-3W
Mr. Marples

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list all licences for which a charge is made by his Department, indicating the current charge, showing for the most recent convenient year the number of licences issued, the gross revenue from the licences, the total administrative expenditure in respect of each category of licence, and the average administrative cost per licence in respect of each category of licence.

Mr. Diamond

The only licences for which charges are made and which are issued by departments for which my right hen. Friend is responsible are excise licences. Information about excise licence duties collected in the financial year 1967–68 is contained in Tables 55 and 68 of the 59th Report of the Commissioners of H.M. Customs and Excise (Cmnd. 3873). The rates of gaming licence duty were increased by the Finance Act, 1968: I am sending particulars to the right hon. Member.

The licences are administratively linked with the corresponding revenue duties and the question of cost does not arise.
