HC Deb 03 April 1969 vol 781 c158W
Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

asked the President of the Board Trade what studies he has made of the extent of evasion of the Hallmarking Laws and Merchandise Marks Act by immigrant goldsmiths and of the effect of such evasion on established jewellers in the United Kingdom; and what steps he is taking to ensure that all goldsmiths' work in this country is of the standard required by the Assay Laws.

Mr. Dell

I am aware of reports of such evasion. Any evidence should be brought to the notice of the nearest Assay Office if it concerns offences against the hallmarking law, or of the local weights and measures authority if it involves the Trade Descriptions Act.
