HC Deb 03 April 1969 vol 781 c178W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will consider identifying in his vote expenditure incurred for social reasons, such as the provision of facilities at Ballykelly, Northern Ireland.

Mr. Reynolds

It would not be appropriate to do so, since extra costs incurred by the Services for non-defence purposes are recovered. Thus no net cost to Defence Votes arises from the provision of the facilities made available to civil aviation at Ballykelly. However, charges are not raised for non-military tasks performed by the Services in rescue work where life is at stake.
