asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the fact that the Green Paper, "Roads for the Future", makes no mention of improvement to the A21 road to Hastings, he will now state his Department's intention regarding this route which is urgently in need of improvement.

The Green Paper, "Roads for the Future", deals with future trunk road development. The A21 is a principal road and is the responsibility of the local highway authorities through whose areas it passes.

Details of the proposed expenditure by the highway authorities concerned on the A21 during the next five years were given in Answer to the hon. Member's Question on 18th December last.—[Vol. 775, c. 408.]
