HC Deb 02 April 1969 vol 781 c122W
Mr. Jopling

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has now completed his consideration of a route for the Kendal link road which would avoid Levens Park; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Marsh

Consideration of the route recently put forward on behalf of the owners of Levens Park will not be completed until a site inspection has been made by my Landscape Advisory Committee and I have received their recommendations.

However, as this route would adversely affect the Sacred Heart Convent, be inferior in standards of alignment and gradient and cost at least £150,000 more than the scheme line, my engineers are urgently examining the possibility of moving the interchange with the A6 trunk road further north and re-routing the Kendal link road well clear of Levens Park, Park Head and the Convent buildings. When I have received all the reports I will consider whether it is desirable to vary the present line.
