Mr. Will Owen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many persons of all ages are signing on at the employment exchanges at Ashington and Morpeth in the county of Northumberland; what percentages of the labour forces they represent; and how this compares with the national average.

At 14th October the numbers registered as unemployed in the areas covered by Ashington and Morpeth Employment Exchanges were 1,481 and 381 respectively, and the percentage rates of unemployment were 8.0 and 4.2. These figures are provisional. The rate for Great Britain will become available towards the end of this week.

At 9th September, 1968, the percentage rates for Ashington, Morpeth and Great Britain were 7.8, 4.1 and 2.3 respectively.
