HC Deb 22 October 1968 vol 770 cc270-1W
Mr. William Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has resulted from the visit of his veterinary mission to South American countries earlier this year.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

The Mission recommended a number of improvements to the arrangements included in the Bledisloe Agreement which established the veterinary conditions under which meat and meat products are exported to this country. The four countries participating in the Bledisloe Agreement—Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay—have told me that the changes proposed are acceptable to them. They will therefore be brought into effect.

I have also agreed that my Department will provide the authorities of Argentina and Uruguay with information on any future outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease; and on the investigation into its origin if Argentine or Uruguayan meat should appear to be involved.
