§ Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the work of his Department so far as it affects sport during the last three months.
§ Mr. Edward ShortDuring the last three months my Department has continued with its work of encouraging and supporting the development of amateur sport and physical recreation in England and Wales, with the advice of the Sports Council. This has included the implementation of the schemes for assisting British participation in the Olympic Games, including pre-Olympic training. As has already been announced, the grant to the British Olympic Committee in respect of the actual cost of participation is likely to be in the region of £50,000.
