§ Mr. Biffenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the estimated percentage increase in rates and earnings arising from the recent award to barmaids in the Carlisle area State public houses; and what productivity conditions were involved in the settlement.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe hourly rate of pay has been raised from 3s. Sid. fixed in August 1965, to 4s. 6d.—an increase of 29 per cent. The increase was granted within the context of the recent general pay review for the Industrial Civil Service and its cost was contained within the limit of a 3½ per cent. increase for industrial civil servants as a whole. No conditions as to productivity were involved. My right hon. Friend is considering this as a separate issue.
