asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now make a statement on the composition of the new Race Relations Board.

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I have today given to the Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Faversham.

Mr. Boston

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now make a statement giving the names of the chairman and members of the Race Relations Board and Community Relations Commission to be appointed under the Race Relations Act 1968.

Mr. Callaghan

I have appointed the Honourable Mark Bonham Carter to be Chairman of the Race Relations Board and the following to be members:

  • Sir Learie Constantine.
  • Mr. Louis Freedman.
  • Mr. Hubert Clifford Hampton.
  • Mr. Mizan Ur Rahman.
  • Mr. Thomas Somerville Roberts, J.P.
  • Mr. Mota Singh.
  • Mr. William Simpson.
  • Mrs. Lena Townsend.
  • Sir Roy Mickel Wilson, Q.C.

I intend to make two further appointments shortly, an industrialist and a second woman member.

I have appointed the Right Hon. Frank Cousins to be Chairman of the Com- munity Relations Commission and the following to be members:

The Lord Campbell of Eskan. Deputy Chairmen.

  • Dr. Abul Fatah Akram Sayeed.
  • Professor Richard Morris Titmuss, C.B.E.

The Chairmen of both bodies have been appointed for a period of three years the members for a period of two years.
