asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many nonindustrial civil servants are o currently being employed by central Government and local authorities, respectively, within Scotland in administrative and clerical posts; and what were the comparable figures for 1964.

The number of non-industrial civil servants employed in Scotland by central Government Departments, excluding the Post Office, at 1st July, 1967, the latest date for which statistics are available, was 36,423. The corresponding figure in 1964 was 32,314. These statistics do not differentiate between administrative, clerical and other grades.

Comparable figures for local government employees in Scotland are not available.
