§ 87 and 88. Mr. Allasonasked the Postmaster-General (1) how many firms deposited credits with the National Giro in 43W October, 1968, but were unable to draw upon these credits owing to lack of the necessary stationery supplied by the Post Office to operate their accounts;
(2) what has been the average delay in issuing stationery to firms to operate accounts with the National Giro after credits were deposited.
§ Mr. StonehouseI am sorry that there were initial delays in issuing Giro stationery to some customers, and as a result, about 80 out of 6,000 firms which had cleared deposits to their accounts by the third week of October had not received their stationery by the end of that month. Some of the delay was due to the large orders which some customers had placed.
During October it took about two weeks on average to supply stationery. Revised procedures which have now been introduced should ensure that customers get their stationery within a week of receipt of their initial deposits at the National Giro Centre.
