HC Deb 12 November 1968 vol 773 cc61-2W
59. Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he has taken to improve the publicity arrangements, and the rights of objection, arising from planning proposals dealt with by local planning authorities; and what advice he has given to encourage consultation with members of the public affected by planning proposals.

Mr. K. Robinson

The 1968 Act requires site notices for certain planning applications and gives opportunity for objection. Guidance will be issued on publicity for planning applications after discussion with the local authority associations.

As to development plans, the Committee on Public Participation in Planning, under the Chairmanship of my hon. Friend the Joint Parliamentary Secretary, is considering how to ensure effective use of the opportunities for public participation at the formative stage which the new Act provides, and is expected to report early next year.
