86. Mr. Edward M. Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will ensure that spending on roads in Great Britain is maintained at a level which is at least 50 per cent. of the tax paid by motorists by way of Purchase Tax, petrol tax and vehicle licences.
§ Mr. TaverneTaxation collected from motorists—in common with other tax revenue—goes into the Consolidated Fund and has no direct relationship with expenditure on the roads.
