Mr. Cordleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of the amount by which the annual cost to public funds of legal aid, totalling £3,246,343 in 1967–68, is likely to be reduced by contributions recoverable from defendants granted legal aid under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act, 1967, and of the cost of administering the contributory provisions of the Act.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganFor 1969–70 legal aid contributions in criminal pro-138W ceedings have been estimated at approximately £400,000. The cost of administering the contribution scheme cannot at present be estimated.
