HC Deb 04 November 1968 vol 772 cc21-2W
71. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many United States warships are presently in Victoria Harbour; what reason has been given to the Hong Kong authorities for their visit; for how long they have been there; and when they are expected to leave.

Mr. Whitlock

On the 2nd November there were seven United States warships in Victoria Harbour, six of which were visiting Hong Kong only for rest and recreation. The other one carries out the attendant co-ordination and administration duties. They arrived at Hong Kong between the 29th October and the 2nd November inclusive and the first six were all expected to have completed their period of rest within three or four days.
