HC Deb 04 November 1968 vol 772 c21W
Mr. Ian Lloyd

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will now accelerate the provision and introduction of illuminated flashing school crossing patrol signs.

Mr. Marsh

Experiments have shown that flashing illumination would not be effective either for the signs carried by patrolmen or for warning signs on approaches to school crossings. But I shall shortly be making new Regulations permitting the signs carried by patrolmen to be illuminated by a continuous light where the authority decides that this is necessary. Also flashing amber lights are being tried in conjunction with some approach warning signs and I am prepared to extend these trials to other suitable sites.
